EFFECT Photonics recently raised an additional $24 million in Series D financing, bringing our total to $62 million. We’re looking for a hands-on Optical Test Engineer with a passion for automation, Python, and solving real-world hardware challenges.
This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who’s eager to learn, build, and make a real impact in a fast-paced, well-funded startup. You’ll report directly to the VP of Operations and work cross-functionally to shape the future of our production testing systems.
What You’ll Do
As part of our technical operations team, you’ll help develop, deploy, and maintain automated test infrastructure for high-performance optical modules. Your work will span hardware testing, Python development, and hands-on lab experimentation, all while collaborating with experienced engineers across disciplines.
Test Automation Development
- Write and maintain Python-based code to automate test flows, control lab instruments, and log test results at scale.
Hands-On Test Execution
- Set up and run optical/electrical tests using tools like BERTs, power meters, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
Data Collection & Analysis
- Assist in analyzing test data to identify trends, troubleshoot failures, and improve product and process reliability.
Documentation & Reporting
- Help build internal resources such as test procedures, troubleshooting guides, and onboarding docs for smooth scaling.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with hardware, firmware, and operations teams to ensure alignment between test systems and production goals.
What You Bring
- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field
- Strong Python programming skills, particularly for test automation, data processing, or hardware interfacing
- Familiarity with lab instruments like BERTs, power meters, and oscilloscopes
- A curious, hands-on mindset and eagerness to learn new tools and technologies
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach—you ask smart questions and contribute to team discussions
- Ability to work across time zones and travel internationally as needed for project support and test process rollout
Why Join EFFECT Photonics
- Work directly with top engineers in optics, firmware, and hardware
- Help build tools and systems that scale from pilot production to high-volume deployment
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment with real ownership and visibility
- Competitive compensation, early equity, and a low-ego, collaborative culture
