Your Role:

In this role, you will be part of an exciting international R&D and business environment and contributing to the growth of our business by strengthening the development and market introduction of innovative protein, enzyme and related products for research and manufacturing. As a seasoned protein / enzyme engineering expert, you will be technical lead for protein engineering on cross-functional multi planning unit projects focused on complex enzyme evolution, development, characterization, and engineering, utilizing state-of the-art tools to design improvements. You will be responsible for designing and implementing technical strategy and provide technical guidance for all aspects of protein engineering, screening and characterization to select suitable mutant to satisfy customer needs.

In this role, you will provide guidance on decision making affecting the entire protein engineering program by:

  • Identifying the right external CRO or academic collaborator for various protein engineering projects
  • Collaborating with the broader research team, external partners to design, build, test and characterize candidates
  • Design technical strategies for different projects Identifying, developing, and establishing methods to engineer and characterize novel enzymes
  • Supervise and be accountable for all aspects of protein engineering, biomolecular modeling, biological data processing, interpretation and application related to projects and beyond
  • Scouting for key technological developments within the field and assisting in business development functionalities
  • Searching for intellectual property opportunities
  • Reporting and presenting results towards colleagues and leadership
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary collaborative interactions and transparent communication to establish and nurture strong working relationship with your R&D colleagues, interface partners from marketing, process development, analytics, quality, regulatory and commercial functions, as well as external partners

Who you are:

  • PhD in Biology related disciplines, such as bioengineering, biophysics, biochemistry, computational biology, quantitative biology, or related field
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in the field of protein/enzyme engineering, and molecular modeling
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Preferred Requirements:

  • Well versed with technology landscape and different methodologies for protein engineering
  • Proven track record of protein/enzyme engineering strategies (rational design and directed evolution) and design and development of high throughput assays for characterizing and improving protein/enzyme function in biopharma industry
  • Deep expertise in understanding of protein design fundamentals and combining information in literature, structure models and guiding teams on the right cost/benefit model for the projects
  • Extensive experience in protein structure, biochemical techniques, and enzyme activity assays
  • Well connected with different players in the protein/enzyme engineering field, solid understanding of selection requirements and associated risks, and record of successful management and collaboration with External partners in the past
  • Strong collaborative team leader with results-focused and problem-solving mindset, with good organizational and project management skills
