Role Summary

This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the electro-mechanical design of Rivian’s electric vehicle systems. We seek highly motivated, multi-disciplinary Electrical Design and Release engineers to design and package electro-mechanical components and low-voltage harnesses supporting electronic hardware in the EV industry. Responsibilities include Tier 1 management, vehicle packaging, drawing releases, component/system validation, homologation compliance, manufacturing support, and field-failure analysis.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead the electrical-mechanical component design, ensuring technical and product excellence.
  2. Support proof of concept development for program success.
  3. Manage the full lifecycle of electronics development, including interface with design, specifications, architecture, supplier nomination, and technical assessments.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize solutions for performance, cost, tooling, and mass.
  5. Optionally, design modules in interaction with studio, architecture, and mechanical teams.
  6. Lead development phases, including PDRs, CDRs, DFMEA, functional safety analysis, and PFMEAs.
  7. Coordinate with Supplier Quality to ensure timely component delivery.
  8. Integrate components into vehicle subsystems and systems.
  9. Maintain component and system-level DVPRs and oversee test execution.

Qualifications

  1. BSc+ in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, or related engineering; Master’s preferred.
  2. At least 1 year experience in vehicle-level component programs preferred.
  3. Strong knowledge of supplier processes, manufacturing, and standards.
  4. Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals; electro-mechanical background a plus.
  5. Familiarity with automotive hardware/software development processes.
  6. Experience with Tier 1 suppliers delivering complete products within budget and schedule.
  7. Knowledge of PLM and component release cycles.
  8. Experience with ISO26262 development process.
  9. Deep electronics, packaging, and software knowledge.
  10. Working knowledge of vehicle electrical systems.
  11. Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.

Additional Information

Salary ranges vary by location, e.g., Palo Alto: $103,800–$115,300; Irvine: $95,400–$106,000. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, vision coverage, effective from day one.
