Senior PCB Layout Engineer

Job Purpose:

As part of the systems design team, the candidate will perform multilayer, controlled-impedance printed circuit boards layout and analysis for leading-edge power, digital, and RF electronics for medical, high-performance, automotive, and aerospace applications.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Perform PCB layouts in PCB layout tools to meet critical design and signal integrity constraints.
  2. Work closely with hardware design, simulation, and manufacturing engineers to define and implement PCB routing and manufacturability constraints.
  3. Collaborate with PCB fabrication companies to ensure impedance design targets are met while meeting manufacturability constraints for high-volume production.
  4. Generate and revise all engineering documentation required to fabricate the PCB designs, including ECOs, gerber databases, and fab drawings.

Experience:

  1. Previous high-speed and high-density interconnect layout experience involving processors, DDR3/4 memory, and high-speed serial interfaces such as PCIe and Ethernet is required.
  2. Detailed understanding of high-speed digital PCB routing constraints.
  3. Understanding of multilayer PCB construction.
  4. Familiarity with constraints-driven PCB layout methodology.
  5. Experience with advanced PCB manufacturing techniques such as blind vias and microvias.
  6. Hands-on knowledge of current PCB layout tools including Mentor Expedition, Cadence Allegro, and Altium.
  7. Experience using Mentor Hyperlynx or similar tools for pre- and post-route Signal Integrity & Power Integrity simulations.
  8. Solid mechanical drafting skills, experienced with AutoCAD for 2D mechanical drawings.
  9. Experience with schematic capture tools such as OrCAD, Cadence Concept, or Mentor.
  10. Experience with Rigid Flex design is a plus.
  11. Experience with CAM tools such as Valor or CAM350 is a plus.
  12. Experience with high-reliability, aerospace, and/or IPC Class 3 designs is a plus.
  13. Knowledge of DFM, DFA, and DFT is desirable.
  14. Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Project.
  15. Must be detail-oriented with proven organizational, analytical, and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  16. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education:

  • BSEE, BSEET degree, or equivalent.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in high-speed PCB layout.

Salary Range (annual): $98,000 - $120,000
