Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Vaccine Production Program (VPP).
Responsibilities
- Conduct and participate in projects that are complex and scientifically demanding within a specific area/field: HPLC, electrophoresis, bio separation techniques to vaccine projects.
- Initiate, implement, plan, direct, and execute scientific research and development.
- Make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results. Demonstrate scientific rigor in assessing own data and that of others.
- Effectively present results at internal meetings.
- Responsible for meeting project goals within time and budget constraints, including vaccine projects, but not limited to vaccines.
- Demonstrate ability for scientific insight and conceptual thinking. Specifically, should be able to clearly define problem statements and make scientific hypotheses.
- Independently plan, design, and execute projects within a specific scientific field (bio-separation technology) utilizing good scientific judgment.
- Typically conduct more than one vaccine project at a time.
- Develop research findings and make recommendations.
- Utilize forward-looking perspective to contribute to “go/no go” decisions.
- Make recommendations on outside technologies for the company to pursue.
Experience Required / Requirements
- Ph.D. in a scientific field. Three to five (3+, 5+) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D. Five to eight (5+, 8+) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Ph.D. Minimum of nine (9) years of experience in a science-related field is required.
- Demonstrates expert knowledge working in the research laboratory environment. Computer skills to include MS Office Suite.
- Must be a team player who can effectively work with members from cross-functional departments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with computer software including word processing, data evaluation, and project timeline management.
- This position is for a bio-separation scientist. Experience is preferred in capillary experience, chromatographic analysis of protein molecules. Prior industry experience is preferred but not required.
