Role Overview

The Director, Patent Attorney will collaborate with research teams to develop, protect, and manage intellectual property related to genetic medicines. These medicines involve genome editing, gene expression modulation, and technologies like CRISPR/Cas9, anti-sense, and antibody therapeutics. The role emphasizes patent protection for therapeutics in development and innovations in genetic medicine technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Identify and secure inventions in genome engineering, anti-sense, antibody therapeutics, and recombineering technologies.
  2. Coordinate patent filings and prosecution domestically and internationally.
  3. Conduct patent landscape, freedom-to-operate, validity, and patentability assessments.
  4. Manage US and international patent actions, including post-grant proceedings.
  5. Support litigation activities as needed.
  6. Assist with due diligence, transactional work, and policy questions.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in life sciences (e.g., molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, immunology, neuroscience).
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, admitted to USPTO, and licensed to practice law in at least one state (preferably NY).
  • Minimum 5 years in biotechnology patent law, with at least 3 years in patent application preparation and prosecution.

Work Environment

This role requires 4 days per week onsite at our Global HQ Campus in Tarrytown, NY. It is not available as fully remote or hybrid.
