GEICO is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in California courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel, located in San Francisco, Sacramento, Concord, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions/examinations before trial, examinations under oath, and defend by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable.
Qualifications
- 2-6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury (REQUIRED).
- Juris Doctor degree (REQUIRED).
- Admission to the California Bar (REQUIRED).
- Must be licensed and in good standing in California, with ability to meet licensing and CLE requirements.
- Willing to travel as needed for trials, hearings, depositions, etc.
- Ability to document files clearly and professionally.
- Strong organizational, conflict resolution, and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to learn and apply technical and procedural information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Civil litigation experience.
- Insurance defense litigation experience.
- Professional communication skills in person, via phone, and email.

Salary Range
$118,900.00 - $186,550.00 annually, based on multiple factors including experience, education, and location.
