Shift Schedule:
- Monday & Tuesday: 12-hour Day Shifts
- Wednesday: 12-hour Night Shift
Facility Overview
- Operating Rooms: 12 total; 9 active Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
- Pre-Op Bays: 20
- PACU Bays: 14
Position Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in Level 1 or Level 2 trauma OR
- Traveler Eligibility:
- No first-time travelers
- Must reside 100+ miles from the facility
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Patient Population
- Surgical Specialties:
- Urology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Robotic Surgery, General Surgery, Podiatry, ENT
- Recovery Phases:
- Phase I & II PACU, including ICU-level care
Staffing Ratios
- OR: 1:1
- Pre-Op: 1:2
- PACU Phase I: 1:1 or 1:2 (based on acuity)
- PACU Phase II: 1:2–3
Certifications & Education
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Licensure: Active RN license through South Dakota Board of Nursing
- Education: Completion of an approved nursing program
Required Skills
- OR Experience:
- Ortho-Trauma (ORIF, external fixation, amputations)
- Neuro (craniotomy, spinal procedures)
- General and Robotic Surgery (Da Vinci XI)
- PACU/Pre-Op: ICU-level skillset required
Team Support Structure
- Surgical Team: RN, First Assist, Surgical Tech, Nurse Clinician, CRN, Service Line Leads, HUC, Scheduler, Preference Card Analyst, OR Techs (1 per case), Anesthesia
- Pre-Op/PACU Team: RN, Nurse Aide (6), Nurse Clinician, CRN (x3)
Technology & Equipment
- Charting System: EPIC (notify if traveler lacks EPIC experience)
- Medication & Infusion: Omnicell, Alaris
Floating Policy
- May float to Pre-Op, PACU, or inpatient floor as needed (support role only)
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation: 1 week (facility + unit)
- Weekend Rotation: Every 3rd weekend (if applicable)
- Call Requirements:
- One overnight call per week (7 PM–7 AM)
- Every 3rd weekend (Friday 3 PM–Monday 7 AM)
- Sleep room available in closed Pre-Op/PACU area
- 15-minute response time required
