The Sr. Staff Accountant is responsible for managing and supporting the Fiscal Department and financial activities of the organization. This role requires at least 5 years of experience in nonprofit accounting, including payroll processing, and demonstrates integrity, attention to detail, and multitasking abilities. The position offers flexible work arrangements, including remote work two days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Prepare and record month-end closing entries, reconcile bank and investment accounts, manage inventory and fixed asset entries, calculate accrued expenses, and oversee overhead cost allocations.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements such as balance sheets and profit and loss statements, and maintain fixed assets records.
- Audit and Compliance: Collaborate with the CFO on audit support, assist with government reports, and ensure compliance with contracts, especially with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.
- Payroll and Backup Responsibilities: Serve as backup for payroll processing and purchasing, with direct payroll experience required.
- Other Responsibilities: Support fiscal projects and tasks as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of GAAP
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and QuickBooks
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or healthcare

- Sitting for extended periods
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
