The Payroll Manager will oversee the end-to-end payroll process and systems for the Atlanta Falcons Football Club, Atlanta United Football Club, Mercedes-Benz Stadium Company, and AMB Sports & Entertainment. The organization processes semi-monthly payrolls for all companies and weekly NFL Player payrolls for Atlanta Falcons Football Club, as outlined in the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement. The ideal candidate must respect confidentiality, understand professional sports dynamics, and have a customer-service mindset.
This role will lead the AMB Sports & Entertainment payroll team with two direct reports and report to the Director of Finance. It is a hands-on position involving payroll processing and cross-training for departmental redundancy.
This is a full-time role located at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide oversight, training, and development for payroll staff. Proactively resolve payroll-related issues and anticipate potential problems. Research and resolve client/system problems. Ensure payroll accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable laws. Maintain high client satisfaction through quality service. Manage full cycle payroll processes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Audit reports such as gross payroll, hours worked, tax deductions, and benefits. Prepare year-end tax documents for US and German tax authorities. Perform journal entries, account reconciliations, and support the General Ledger. Verify payroll data, including salary adjustments and employee deductions. Lead deferred compensation plans and support 401(k) and HSA benefits. Coordinate with the league on pension payments and reporting. Stay updated on payroll system changes and wage/tax law updates. Correspond with tax agencies on problem situations. Conduct new hire orientations and ongoing benefits education. Analyze benefits claims data and implement cost control initiatives. Audit benefit invoices monthly. Review contracts for compensation accuracy and deadlines. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. At least 5 years of management experience in payroll or related fields. Minimum of 7 years in payroll experience. Experience with NFL or professional sports teams required. Workday payroll experience preferred. Skills & Knowledge
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate, train, and develop staff. Comfortable with providing and receiving feedback. Strong project management skills. Collaborative skills across departments. Knowledge of payroll SOPs, laws, and regulations. Customer-service oriented. Proactive problem-solving skills.
