The Principal Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping our data strategy and infrastructure. The focus of this role is on technology advancement within the data and analytics space and ensuring systems and data solutions are designed and delivered in a manner that is secure, scalable, and sustainable. The Principal Data Engineer will serve as an internal subject matter expert and as a liaison between various technology departments to develop data models, data ingestion and orchestration patterns, and advise on technology implementation and delivery. This role is based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and will be a hybrid role. Candidates may also work in Orlando, FL; Dodge Center, MN; or Hagerstown, PA. No visa sponsorship is available at this time. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with cloud-based data engineering and a deep understanding of data modeling and data warehousing. Responsibilities include coordinating with enterprise and domain engineers to establish and implement cloud service patterns, designing robust OLTP and OLAP data models, and ensuring all solutions adhere to cybersecurity guidelines. Your Impact Coach, mentor, and train engineers in industry best practices and secure data solutions design patterns. Collaborate with others to design, deliver, and support data and cloud-based solutions. Create value for internal business teams by connecting strategic needs to high-quality data solutions. Design and implement data solutions with a hands-on approach. Develop measurement criteria for programs and projects, and review technical estimates. Participate in planning, designing, and implementing data strategies. Drive the scalability, efficiency, and sustainability of data platforms and secure stakeholder buy-in. Perform other duties as assigned. Key Responsibilities Establish standardized cloud service patterns within Microsoft Azure in collaboration with engineers and architects. Use infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform to manage cloud infrastructure. Develop reusable cloud service patterns for internal teams focused on machine learning and AI analytics. Design logical and physical data models for OLTP and OLAP systems using data modeling tools. Define and enforce data architecture standards and best practices. Ensure data models support business needs, performance, and scalability. Oversee integration of new data technologies and tools. Ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies and standards. Collaborate on security assessments and implement mitigation strategies. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience in the field or related area. Experience providing technical leadership and influencing technology teams. 4+ years of experience with Python in analytics/data science environments, including source control systems. Qualifications Excellent communication and presentation skills. Experience with CDC-based data ingestion solutions (e.g., Qlik Replicate, Striim, Debezium). Familiarity with open-source data transformation tools like dbt. Proven experience in data architecture and cloud data engineering. Deep understanding of Microsoft Azure services and architecture. Experience with Microsoft Azure Gov Cloud (GCC High). Experience with Databricks, Data Lake, Delta format, and Hive metastore. Experience with orchestration platforms like Airflow, Dagster, Luigi, and shell scripting. Knowledge of data governance, quality, and security practices. Master's degree in Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, or MBA. Prior technology leadership experience preferred.
