HR Business Partner
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) serves as the primary strategic HR advisor and liaison for designated departments or schools. The HRBP builds rapport and credibility with department leaders, analyzes talent trends, and develops and implements HR solutions to meet departmental talent needs. The HRBP provides HR policy and employment law guidance, advocates for department needs, and provides day-to-day performance management guidance to university leaders. The HRBP builds trusted relationships with supported leaders, providing coaching and consultation on various HR and talent topics, and maintains a high level of business literacy relevant to the areas they support. The ideal candidate is discerning, emotionally intelligent, self-motivated, persuasive, possesses advanced critical thinking and strategic planning skills, maintains a comprehensive knowledge of HR policy and employment law, and builds strong relationships with others. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Provide strategic support and counsel to designated university leaders operating at the divisional, departmental, and/or school levels in personnel management, talent development, and organizational planning contexts and initiatives. Provide HR policy and employment law guidance and clarification to supported leaders and administrators. Offer day-to-day performance management guidance to supported leaders in areas including employee coaching, succession planning, professional development, disciplinary action, and feedback. Build rapport and credibility with department leaders and administrators through regular interactions, working to learn the "language of the business" and remain an accessible and trusted advisor. Lead and facilitate local delivery of HR solutions to departments and schools alongside of HR specialist staff and centers of excellence. Coach and develop the leadership capabilities of supported leaders through individual guidance, ad-hoc consultation, and implementation of HRBP coaching tools to enhance leaders' people management effectiveness and ability. Act as primary HR leader, point of contact, and liaison for designated departments and/or schools. Develop and implement strategic HR solutions and initiatives for assessed departmental and/or school talent needs. Analyze and monitor various talent trends and patterns amongst divisions supported using data and metrics. Support departmental and/or school talent needs by advocating for and articulating these needs in internal HR policy and program development contexts. Maintain an effective level of business literacy as it relates to the assigned department's organizational position, culture, mid-to-long range goals and overall vision and objectives. Performs other related duties as assigned. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering both LU's and HR's mission. Education and Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience resolving complex employee relations situations, navigating workforce management contexts, leading teams, or providing leadership coaching and guidance. Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational planning, employee relations, employee engagement, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws. Bachelor's degree required. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), PHR (Professional in Human Resources), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) credential obtained or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment required.
