Release Of Information Specialist
The Release Of Information Specialist ensures that only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information. Ensures authenticity of patient signature prior to release of information. Responsible for ensuring that all releases of information are in compliance with the request and authorization, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and HIPAA statutes. Applies detailed provision of laws and regulations. Requires skills that include a thorough working knowledge for the retrieval of documents from various systems including Expanse, Chartmaxx, microfilm, and paper charts. Responsibilities
Prioritizes and processes ROI requests applying the detailed provisions of specific laws and regulations for release of information and ensuring authenticity of patient signature and legal right to request medical information. Runs appropriate Expanse reports as related to release of information. Requires skills that include a thorough working knowledge of the Expanse and Chartmaxx Systems, microfilm, and paper charts as to process requests for release of information. Retrieves and prepares documents for release of information by selecting the appropriate documents from the medical record and preparing them for copying and/or faxing. Generates invoices, letters, and release of information acknowledgements through Expanse. Assists with posting the revenue and accountability for reimbursement. Responds to requests for medical information from insurances, attorneys, subpoenas, court orders, Risk Management, and legal counsel. Answers phones, retrieves messages and communicates to appropriate persons or processes requests as related to continued health care and release of information. Performs Midas chart audits and analysis of clinical records as needed DCH Standards: Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation. Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Must have good communication and organizational skills. High School diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English. WORK CONTEXT Must be able to greet persons entering establishment, determine nature and purpose of visit. Must be able to hear and resolve complaints from customers or the public. Must be able to file and maintain records. Must be able to tolerate prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing. Must have normal vision and hearing or correctable to normal. Must be able to exert almost continual physical effort such as pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, lifting and walking. Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 10lbs. Must be careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks. Must be reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfilling obligations. Must be pleasant with others on the job and display good nature, cooperative attitude.
