"Everything is Better in Person" Summary Objective Person County Government is actively recruiting for a Telecommunicator Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) to join our dynamic 911 Communications team. This critical, full-time role provides responsible and fast-paced public safety communications and administrative support for law enforcement, fire, and rescue services within the community. This is a non-exempt position working 40 hours weekly/2080 hours annually and is eligible for overtime. The hours Day Shift 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Night Shift 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Shift assignment is various and is not guaranteed.
Week 1- Work 2 days - off Monday & Tuesday ; work Wed & Thursday;
off Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Week 2- Work 5 days- work Monday, Tuesday,
off Wednesday & Thursday ; work Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Applicants will be contacted after job post closing date via email to schedule a required computer test for this position. The test will take approximately 2 hours or less. After scores are calculated, the top score applicants will be contacted for an interview. Essential Functions
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Receives routine and emergency telephone calls and personal requests for assistance concerning crimes, fires, rescue needs or general information, identifies the locations of callers to choose and dispatch the proper law enforcement, fire, or rescue department or unit. Operates a variety of electronic equipment to maintain contact with Sheriff and Police personnel, multiple fire units and emergency rescue personnel, and other law enforcement units; dispatches officers to answer requests for assistance. Interviews callers to determine the nature of concern and provides information about the situation as it develops and/or background information from the DCI; provides pre-arrival medical instruction using EMD system. Operates terminal connected with the DCI to obtain driver's history, vehicle registration data and criminal record information; checks warrants; runs vehicle inquiries and driver license history checks for law enforcement agencies. Maintains communications logs and reports including the nature of calls, actions taken, and the times involved. Monitor public and private fire and security alarm systems; activates monitors to dispatch volunteer agencies; transfers appropriate calls to state patrol. Monitors activities of law enforcement officers on patrol and makes radio contact to insure safety; takes and transmits personal and departmental messages. Takes and transmits after hours calls for municipal utilities and county social services, mental health and animal control. Works in the communications center to receive calls during weather and other emergencies such as hurricanes, ice and snow; informs emergency response personnel, local hospitals, rest homes, nursing homes and County departments of severe weather warnings provided by National Weather Service and other agencies. May be assigned to work in the County's emergency Operations Center (EOC) and/or Mobile Command Post during emergencies or natural disasters. Performs routine maintenance of office equipment and work area. Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Desirable Experience and Education
Graduation from high school and public contact and customer service experience; communications and dispatching experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Possess valid certification by the State of North Carolina as a DCI Operator or obtain within six months of employment. Possess valid certification as a Telecommunicator by the State of North Carolina or obtain within six months of employment. Possess certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher by the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch or obtain within six months of employment. Possess valid CPR certification or obtain within six months. Certification with FEMA/EMI ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 within probationary period. Must report to work at the scheduled time during inclement or adverse weather conditions. Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates. Job offers are conditional pending the following:
A pre-employment drug screen for all candidates. Positions designated by Person County as Safety Sensitive are also subject to random drug and alcohol testing. A background check for all candidates.
