Role Description:
Bowler Pons Solutions Consultants, LLC (Bowler Pons) is looking for a Wireless Systems Engineer to join our team supporting our military customer base. The position would include the sustainment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) installation points made up of a combination of wireless radios (Cisco/other), Electro Industries (EI) smart meters (Nexus/Shark) dispersed over the following Navy Regions, Hawaii, Mid-Atlantic and Naval District Washington (NDW).
This position would be based in either the Norfolk or Washington D.C. metropolitan areas. Travel between the regions listed above would be required for regular sustainment responsibilities. The estimated travel percentage required would be between 75 and 85 %.
Job Responsibilities: Sustain the Navy's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) field installation points Interface and coordinate as needed with the Navy's AMI team to make sure the meters are fully operational and report back to their assigned systems Program, test, and troubleshoot the components of the AMI system to include EI smart meters, Cisco/other wireless radios, Cisco field switches and 2.4/5.8 GHz wireless antennas Terminate all necessary cabling to include LMR400 coax and CAT5/6 Inspect existing wireless radio, antenna and cabling infrastructure to ensure proper installation, deployment and sizing
Typical Daily Activities:
Coordinate with customer to arrange system survey Make travel arrangements (routing, hotel, airline) as required Perform On-site survey of installed systems, assess system operational status Troubleshoot system to determine root causes of any outage discovered Assess switch, wireless radios (Cisco/other) and smart power meter functional status Make onsite repairs if possible (equipment configuration, cable replacements, power supply replacement) Write assessment report detailing all activities to include findings, repairs, remaining outages and remaining requirements to bring the system to an operational status to include equipment/parts required
Required Qualifications:
U.S. citizenship Ability to obtain/maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance Wireless (Wi-Fi 2.5/5.8Ghz) experience Cisco switch familiarity Security + Certification Experience with wireless systems (antennas/LMR cable) TCP/IP networking familiarity Knowledge of basic networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP) Knowledge and experience with basic serial protocols (RS-232, RS-485) Ability to collaborate well with team members, take ownership of projects and initiatives, and work effectively with limited supervision in a broad range of customer-oriented environments
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Familiarity with the Navy's AMI Metering Program Cisco or vendor neutral wireless certification a plus (CCNA Wireless, CCNP Wireless, CCIE Wireless) Experience designing, installing, or troubleshooting various wireless sensor networks Electric meter (socket type) programming/replacement About Bowler Pons:
