The Dean of Student Onboarding and Success provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all onboarding, advising, and student transition initiatives. This position is responsible for managing the delivery of high-quality, timely, and student-centered services that facilitate access, engagement, and long-term success. The Dean plays a pivotal role in institutional efforts related to enrollment, retention, and student success by aligning onboarding operations with college-wide goals and strategic plans.

This position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required. Essential Duties

Provide administrative leadership for all onboarding, advising, and student success initiatives, overseeing personnel, services, and operations within the department. Provide key leadership for Onboarding and Advising divisional initiatives. Supervise Associate Dean of Academic Advising and Transfer, Director of Student Onboarding and Success, and three Associate Directors and divisional leadership for Education Navigators and other staff. Oversee development and implementation of onboarding policies, processes, and procedures for all new and incoming students, including those in curriculum and continuing education programs. Serve as a key contributor to institutional strategic enrollment and retention planning. Design and manage proactive advising models, including Education Navigator responsibilities, outreach plans, and training protocols. Utilize CRM and student success platforms (e.g., Slate or similar) to monitor engagement, manage caseloads, and drive outreach strategies. Oversee execution of New Student Orientation, onboarding events, and student intake assessment efforts. Facilitate the delivery and use of the MAP: Embark Assessment and ensure advising staff use career-informed guidance to support pathway selection. Oversee limited enrollment program admissions and selective admissions processes in coordination with academic departments. Ensure students are able to access services in person, virtually, and during non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends. Collaborate with faculty, student support services, and academic leadership to ensure smooth transitions and holistic student support across the student lifecycle. Support the development and execution of the First-Year Experience and academic recovery programs. Promote a culture of continuous improvement by leading staff in departmental goal setting, performance review, and assessment initiatives. Provide leadership in managing departmental budgets, resources, and staffing needs. Maintain up-to-date materials including onboarding guides, orientation resources, and website content in partnership with marketing and communications staff. Coordinate staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing cross-training to enhance service delivery and promote shared knowledge. Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training of all new departmental personnel. Ensure compliance with all relevant state, federal, and institutional regulations including FERPA and Title IX as they relate to onboarding and advising practices. Represent the college on internal and external committees, initiatives, and partnerships, including regional or state-level onboarding/advising collaboratives. Prepare and disseminate reports related to onboarding performance metrics, enrollment outcomes, and service improvements to senior leadership. Complete the annual five-hour staff development requirement. Follow and support College activities, policies, and procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Required educational background:

Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Academic Advising, Educational Leadership, Counseling, or a closely related field. Master's degrees in other areas with significant experience in student services higher education will be considered. Experience:

3-5 years of progressive leadership experience managing large teams in student-facing roles. At least 2 years of experience in admissions, academic advising, onboarding, orientation, or related functions. Experience using student information systems, CRMs, and data reporting tools. Skills and Abilities:

Strong leadership and staff management capabilities. Demonstrated success leading institution-wide initiatives and project. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to analyze data and use insights to drive continuous improvement. Strong project management and organizational skills. Experience working collaboratively across departments and divisions. Commitment to excellent customer service and student support. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to innovate and improve existing processes. Preferred Requirements

Doctorate in Adult Education, Community College Leadership, Higher Education or related field Experience with onboarding, advising, and retaining adult students Bilingual in English and Spanish. Experience with CRM development and/or advising systems. Familiarity with North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) policies and practices.
