Principal Java Software Engineer
Satellite Ground Systems (On-Site)
Location: State College, PA or Dulles, VA Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI (U.S. Citizenship required) Join a mission-driven team dedicated to solving complex challenges in satellite communications and defense technology. As a Principal Java Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development of advanced software solutions that support satellite ground systems, ensuring secure and reliable communication and surveillance capabilities. This is an on-site position at a secure facility due to clearance requirements. Design, develop, and maintain software applications for satellite ground systems. Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and fellow software engineers to deliver high-performance solutions. Implement and test Java and Python-based applications in a Linux environment. Support legacy platform teams and assist in migrating workloads to modern pipelines. Define software requirements and specifications in cross-functional teams. Modify and enhance existing codebases. Ensure software performance, reliability, and scalability. Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and system integration. Contribute to project milestones under the guidance of a supervisor. Follow established software development processes and documentation standards. Learn and apply satellite ground system operations and tools. Active and transferable TS/SCI security clearance. U.S. Citizenship. Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Experience in object-oriented software development using Java in Linux/UNIX environments. Experience with unit testing tools (e.g., JUnit). Proficiency in Python. Experience in Agile/DevOps environments. Experience with DevOps tools: Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Maven, Jira, Git, BitBucket, Confluence. Familiarity with SonarQube and SQL. Security+ certification. Experience with satellite communication systems and protocols. Knowledge of secure coding practices in defense or aerospace settings. Master's degree in STEM.
