Position Overview
As a Mid-Level Interior Designer at Cicada, you’ll work alongside our team of designers and architects to transform concepts into beautiful, functional spaces. Under the guidance of lead designers, you’ll develop floor plans, 3D renderings, technical drawings, source materials, and coordinate with vendors to ensure seamless project delivery. The ideal candidate brings a refined design aesthetic, strong technical skills, and a passion for collaboration and creativity.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Presentation
Design & Implementation: Collaborate with the lead designer’s to develop detailed floor plans and 3D renderings.
Project Execution: Assist in client visioning sessions, prepare concept boards, and support client presentations.
Design Presentations: Create and assemble materials that clearly convey design direction and concepts.
3D Modeling + Rendering: Develop high-quality 3D models and photo-realistic renderings to present to clients.
Client Meetings: Participate in client meetings to present design concepts and attend on-site meetings during construction.
Site Visits: Conduct field measurements for as-built drawings at the start of each project.
Material Selection & Specification
Material Specification: Source and specify materials, fixtures, hardware, and other design elements.
Scope Estimates: Work with construction estimator to price design during pre-con phase.
Material Coordination: Assist with ordering, quoting, and reserving finishes, fixtures, furniture, and accessories.
Specifications: Enter all material and fixture specifications into Cicada software for client approval.
Vendor Coordination: Communicate with vendors to obtain lead times, pricing, and quotes.
Documentation
Construction Documentation: Work with the project architect to develop technical drawings (floor plans, lighting plans, interior elevations).
Casework Detail Drawings: Create detailed drawings for custom casework designs.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: Minimum 5 years in interior design, with residential experience required.
Technical Proficiency: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), Buildertrend, Programma, Microsoft Outlook.
Strong Communication: Strong ability to correspond professionally with vendors, clients, and internal teams.
Organization & Time Management: Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Problem-Solving: Proactively anticipate and address potential project challenges.
On-Site Role: Position based at Cicada Company’s Kansas City office.
Travel: Periodic travel to job sites and vendor showrooms for project coordination, procurement, and installations.
Base Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Hybrid Work Schedule: Work from home on Wednesdays; in-office presence required the other four days in Kansas City, MO.
