Director of Campaign & Communications Strategy

to join our Strategy department. In this role, you’ll work alongside our Chief Strategy Officer to shape and deliver campaigns for nonprofit, healthcare, government, and travel clients. You’ll bring a sharp communications lens to strategy—building narratives, frameworks, and campaign approaches that help our clients reach new audiences while staying true to who they are. This freelance role is project-based, flexible, and designed for senior-level strategists who can step in and make an immediate impact. Your Responsibilities

Shape Campaign & Communications Strategy Develop integrated campaign strategies that align with client goals, blending creative, media, and messaging approaches. Translate objectives into clear narratives, positioning statements, and campaign frameworks. Ensure communications are culturally relevant, accessible, and designed to resonate with diverse audiences. Turn Research into Actionable Insights Direct the use of audience, market, and cultural research to surface insights that inform strategy. Provide strategic guidance to full-time and freelance researchers and strategists, ensuring outputs are aligned with client objectives. Synthesize findings into narratives, briefs, and recommendations that drive clarity and impact. Identify opportunities for message testing, partnership leverage, and audience expansion. Bring Strategy to Creative Work Work closely with internal account, creative, and digital teams to ensure strategies are actionable, inspiring, and measurable. Contribute to ideation sessions, providing insights and campaign narratives to guide creative development. Support brand strategy projects, including positioning, messaging frameworks, and narrative development. Provide strategic input on website projects, ensuring content, UX, and messaging align with campaign and brand goals. Support pitch development and new business proposals with campaign insights and recommendations. Support Client Engagement (as needed) Participate in client meetings and workshops as a strategic contributor, strengthening Bellweather’s recommendations. Collaborate with the Chief Strategy Officer on external presentations and high-level deliverables. Over time, take on more external-facing responsibilities as appropriate and aligned with client needs. Measure & Evolve Campaigns Collaborate with digital and media partners to set KPIs and success measures. Evaluate campaign results and adapt strategies for optimization and long-term growth. Your Qualifications

10+ years of experience in communications strategy, campaign planning, or related roles—agency or in-house. Proven track record developing and executing campaigns for nonprofit, government, or mission-driven clients. Strong background in turning research and insights into messaging frameworks and creative briefs. Exceptional communication and presentation skills with senior-level teams and stakeholders. Expertise in cross-channel campaigns, including digital, OOH, media partnerships, and social. Collaborative, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote-first agency environment.
