Acara Solutions with over 65 years of experience providing engineering talent to aerospace and space industries, is helping our cryogenic space systems client find a Mechanical Engineer to initially help them on a spacecraft docking project. This is a salaried direct onsite position in in Rockledge, FL (Cape Canaveral).
Must have requirements to be considered: * Spacecraft docking systems experience * Current experience with FEA tools including NASTRAN and ANSYS * Robotics experience * Spacecraft mechanical systems experience * Standards knowledge of Spacecraft Loading & Design Analysis, NASA STD 5002 and ECSS-E-HB-32-26
Here's what you'd do:
- The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and activating spacecraft mechanical systems, including umbilical, deployment, and robotics, payload attachment mechanisms, docking systems, fluid and pneumatic disconnects to support the client's goal of providing terrestrial and orbital refuelling solutions.
- Design and analyze mechanical components for satellite systems and subsystems.
- Incorporate additive-manufactured parts into structural design.
- Generate 3D engineering models and associated 2D drawings.
- Perform and evaluate Finite Element Analysis of components and assemblies, including stress, vibration, thermal expansion, and modal modeling, using commercial FEA software packages.
- Write system requirements, interface control, and other design documents.
- Write analysis reports documenting mechanical analysis performed, incorporating industry standards.
- Write test plans for system testing to meet mechanical/environmental standards.
- Interface with fluids, software, electrical engineering teams, customers, and vendors.
- Work independently as well as part of a team and manage key supplier relationships.
- Manage your time, workflow, and deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously.
Job Requirements
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in solid modeling (SolidWorks), drawing generation, CAD packages, and FEA NASTRAN and ANSYS tools
- Minimum 5 years of experience in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in spacecraft operations and related ground systems.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Standards of Spacecraft Loading & Design Analysis, NASA STD 5002 and ECSS-E-HB-32-26.
- Experience with cryogenic systems.
- Experience with fluid components such as valves, disconnects, and umbilicals.
- Ability to evaluate test data and present in a clear and impactful manner to various audiences.
