Position Summary:
At Calbee America's Boardman, MS facility, the Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for overseeing plant quality assurance and sanitation operations to ensure the production of safe, high-quality products that meet all regulatory, customer, and company standards. This role plays a critical part in maintaining and improving food safety systems, managing quality control and sanitation teams, and driving continuous improvement across plant operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with experience in FDA-regulated food manufacturing, SQF, HACCP, and a strong commitment to compliance, training, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance & Food Safety
  • Lead and develop QA and Sanitation team members to achieve safety, quality, service, and cost targets.
  • Oversee daily quality operations, including inspections, product testing, and compliance with HACCP, SQF, GMP, SOPs, and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as the site's SQF Practitioner and Food Safety Decision Maker, ensuring adherence to internal programs and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and maintain food safety and quality systems including audits, corrective actions, and documentation.
  • Analyze product quality data (e.g., net weights, moisture, microbiology) and implement improvements as needed.
  • Ensure quality systems are implemented across production, warehouse, sanitation, and maintenance areas.

Sanitation & Compliance
  • Oversee sanitation operations and pest control programs to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards (FDA, USDA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Supervise and schedule sanitation team members to ensure effective cleaning and sanitation of the facility and equipment.
  • Provide sanitation-related training and monitor employee practices to ensure food safety and hygiene protocols are consistently followed.

People Leadership & Collaboration
  • Train and develop QA and Sanitation teams on SQF, HACCP, and food safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, performance metrics, and initiatives.
  • Partner with HR on staffing, performance management, and development planning.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Maintenance, and R&D to support operational goals.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation to support internal audits, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain records of inspections, certifications, and quality metrics; participate in system reviews and updates.
  • Lead and support internal and third-party audits to ensure plant readiness and adherence to food safety systems.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in food science, Microbiology, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of experience in food manufacturing with a focus on quality and sanitation.
  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Strong working knowledge of SQF, HACCP, GMPs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills with the ability to lead change and drive results.
  • SQF Practitioner certification preferred.
  • PCQI, HACCP certification required.
