Job Description The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is recruiting for a Linux Systems Administrator with cloud technology experience Reporting directly to DRI's Director of Cyberinfrastructure. This position is responsible for supporting and improving the technical and operational performance of DRI's Enterprise Linux ecosystem and will have some cloud support duties (AWS, GCP, o365). The successful candidate will also have experience with Windows servers/AD (physical and virtual), running scientific and business applications, virtualization workloads, enterprise backup utilities, web and file servers, and databases. This position will work closely with DRI's cybersecurity team to ensure that all servers and applications meet security best practices and function optimally in DRI's segmented network environment. Experience with HPC/HTC is a plus. This in-person position is based at DRI's campus in Reno, Nevada. The ideal candidate will be team-oriented and possess a strong work ethic that includes being a self-starter and taking ownership of projects from start to finish. Additionally, the candidate will be: Curious, highly motivated, and able to independently explore and learn new technologies; Able to analyze existing infrastructure and service offerings, and make recommendations and plans to improve, replace, or expand those offerings; Able to implement new infrastructure and service offerings in a timely manner, while communicating progress with peers and leadership; Comfortable and capable of effectively communicating with a wide variety of people with technical and non-technical backgrounds, including academic researchers, and non-academic personnel. Required Qualifications Bachelors Degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited institution and 3+ Years experience in administering Linux servers: database & web servers, DNS, Docker; system lifecycle maintenance with Ansible and virtual templates OR five (5) years of a combination of education, experience, and certifications that would provide the required knowledge and abilities 3+ Years experience administering enterprise virtualization technologies VMware, Hyper-V, or Citrix Minimum 3 years Linux experience with database & web servers, DNS, Docker, Ansible, lifecycle management 1+ Years experience administering at least one major enterprise backup vendor/package Familiarity with industry standard security practices, policies, and procedures and the ability to architect and implement solutions adhering to those best practices Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact with faculty and staff across a spectrum of specialties and fields Must be highly motivated and a self-starter, with the ability to meet deadlines, handle rapidly shifting priorities, and be results-oriented Preferred Qualifications 1+ Years experience administering Windows servers: file shares, IIS, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP 1+ Years AWS administration experience, including AWS Organizations, EC2, S3, SES, EBS, Landing Zone AWS/Azure/GCP or Linux Certification 1+ Years Office365/M365 administration experience, including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, EntraID Experience with High Performance Computing/High Throughput Computing clusters running scientific workloads with the Slurm scheduler Experience in an academic or research setting Experience with AI/ML models, training, tools, and emerging developments Experience with Citrix DaaS for desktop and application delivery Conditions of Employment U.S. citizenship per sponsor funding requirements Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects Evening and weekend hours may be required on occasion Compensation Grade/Benefits This is an Administrative Faculty Range C position with a starting minimum annual starting salary of $87,000 and is competitive and commensurate with education, experience, and aligns with similar public academic research institutions.
