GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):
The Assistant Director of Student Support Services will ensure that appropriate services are available to all students who are in need of individualized educational programming. The Assistant Director of Student Support Services will work collaboratively to coordinate services with the Director of Student Support Services, school administration, building administrators, student support teams, and classroom teachers in order to foster a positive school/parent partnerships while creating a learning atmosphere that supports engagement of students with diverse needs in the least restrictive environment. This is a full-time 12 month position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Master's degree in special education or a related discipline
  • Massachusetts Department of Early and Secondary Education (DESE) certification as a Special Education Administrator (All Levels)
  • Five years of related experience in a school setting
  • Experienced in supervising and evaluating staff
  • Knowledgeable in state and federal regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):
  • Ensure that the District fully complies with the Individual Education Program (IEP) process and procedures including but not limited to Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504
  • Ensure that regulations are fully implemented by committing District resources for student programming when necessary
  • Meet regularly with the school-based student support teams and school leaders
  • Oversee out-of-district placements as defined by the requirements of the District including but not limited to serving as liaison for students who require placement, participate in progress monitoring, attend team meetings as required, coordinate programs to transition students back to the district where appropriate and meeting with parents to facilitate placement and IEP
  • Assist in maintaining and establishing relationships with community, state and local agencies to coordinate services for all students
  • Chair or attend team meetings as appropriate, monitor timelines, review and assist teams in the development of IEPs, and provide consultation and mentoring to staff on a regular basis
  • Assist in the budget process, including federal, state and local grants as well as complying with the requirements of Circuit Breaker Reimbursement
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with families and with the District's parent advisory council, and other stakeholders
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring and evaluation of personnel as directed including observing and providing feedback
  • Assist in the completion of required documentation as defined by professional responsibilities
  • This positions duties may shift as needed.
  • Complete any other tasks as directed by the Director of Student Support Services
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for after-school or evening meetings.
Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily a stationary position in an office or school setting with moderate noise. The person in the position must be able to ambulate in a large building and have reliable transportation to be mobile between school buildings. Must be able to lift up to 15lbs. (laptop and/or materials) and use computer and office equipment effectively. Vision and hearing correctable to normal ranges. This position frequently communicates with staff, students and other constituents.
