Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Casualty Underwriter to join our growing E&S team. This role is responsible for underwriting complex primary and excess casualty risks across various industries, ensuring profitability, growth, and adherence to company guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of E&S underwriting, strong analytical and decision-making skills, and the ability to cultivate productive relationships with wholesale brokers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Evaluation & Underwriting:
    • Underwrite new and renewal accounts for general liability, excess liability, and other casualty lines within E&S guidelines and authority.
    • Assess exposures, coverage needs, pricing adequacy, and policy terms for complex risks.
    • Analyze loss trends, financial data, and other risk factors to determine appropriate underwriting actions.
  • Broker & Market Relations:
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers to drive profitable business growth.
    • Negotiate terms and conditions to meet underwriting standards and client needs.
    • Provide superior customer service and timely responses to broker submissions and inquiries.
  • Portfolio & Profitability Management:
    • Monitor and manage portfolio performance to ensure adherence to company profitability goals.
    • Identify market trends, emerging risks, and opportunities to refine underwriting strategies.
    • Collaborate with actuaries, claims, and legal teams to enhance risk selection and pricing models.
  • Leadership & Mentorship:
    • Provide guidance and training to junior underwriters and underwriting assistants.
    • Participate in underwriting audits and process improvement initiatives.
    • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and broker meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Required:
    • 5+ years of underwriting experience in excess & surplus casualty insurance.
    • Strong knowledge of E&S guidelines, forms, and industry-specific exposures.
    • Established relationships with wholesale brokers and a deep understanding of distribution channels.
    • Proven ability to assess, price, and structure coverage for complex risks.
    • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelor's degree in risk management, Business, Finance, or a related field.
    • Professional designations such as CPCU, ASLI, or CIC.
    • Experience with underwriting platforms and analytics tools.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive base salary with performance-based incentives. Pay Range: $90,000 - $150,000 + Bonus
