This newly created position reports to the Vice President Tax and will be a strong candidate and in prime position to ultimately be the successor to the Vice President of Tax who we brought to the company fifteen years ago. The compensation package for this leader will include a strong base salary, discretionary bonus, and equity in the company. Just recently their stock was at an all-time high! OSI Systems is a vertically integrated provider of specialized electronic systems and components that meet the critical needs in the homeland security, healthcare, defense, and aerospace industries. As a global company, they are dedicated to developing solutions for their customers and the people they serve to lead the way to a safer and healthier world. This individual will have a crucial leadership role responsible for, among other things, managing and overseeing the tax compliance function on both a domestic and international scale. They will report directly to the Vice President of Taxes and must have strong strategic thinking, collaboration, and management skills to ensure the company’s adherence to tax regulations globally. OSI Systems was founded in 1987, and their corporate headquarters is located in Hawthorne, California. The company operates significant research and development and manufacturing operations throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Their sales and service teams are located throughout the world. They have three operating divisions: Security division . A global leader providing security and inspection systems, turnkey screening operations, and integrated solutions focused on maximizing threat detection and operational success. Healthcare division. They design and manufacture acute care patient monitoring, diagnostic cardiology, and clinical networking solutions for use in hospitals, medical clinics, and physician offices. Optoelectronics and Manufacturing division. They provide specialized electronic components and electronic manufacturing service to the Security and Healthcare divisions, as well as to external original equipment manufacturers and end users for application in the defense, aerospace, medical, and industrial markets among others. The Company’s website is: Responsibilities: Leadership and Management: Manage and guide the tax team, providing leadership and mentorship. SEC Compliance: Assist the Vice President of Tax with ASC 740 reporting. Compliance: Manage and review US and global tax compliance to ensure adherence to all relevant tax laws and regulations. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement tax strategies that align with the company’s overall business goals and objectives. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate tax risks, ensuring the company’s tax positions are adequately supported and defended. Reporting: Prepare and present detailed tax reports to the Vice President of Tax and other senior management, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all tax-related documentation. Audit Support: Lead and manage tax audits, providing necessary documentation and support to auditors. Advisory: Work with the Vice President of Tax to provide advice on tax implications for business decisions and transactions, supporting various departments with tax-related insights. Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations, ensuring the company remains compliant and proactive in its tax planning. Ensure that direct report(s) are trained and evaluated on their knowledge and adherence to the company’s values, Code of Ethics and Conduct, and applicable compliance policies. Qualifications: B.S. in Accounting or related field required. M.S. preferred. Must have a minimum of 15 years of experience in tax management. Tax management experience in a large public accounting firm and with a multinational publicly traded company is preferred. Excellent knowledge of ASC 740 reporting is essential. Must have a strong background in both US and international tax compliance. Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing tax team is required. Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations, with the ability to apply this knowledge effectively in a business context is required. Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills are needed. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex tax information clearly and concisely. Must be able to occasionally travel internationally and domestically for audits and international tax compliance. LEADERSHIP BIOGRAPHIES Alan Edrick, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Mr. Edrick joined the Company in this role in September 2006. Mr. Edrick has over three decades of financial management and public accounting experience, including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, financial planning and analysis, and regulatory compliance. Between 2004 and 2006, Mr. Edrick served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of BioSource International, Inc., a biotechnology company, until its sale to Invitrogen Corporation. Between 1998 and 2004, Mr. Edrick served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of North American Scientific, Inc., a medical device and specialty pharmaceutical company. Between 1989 and 1998, Mr. Edrick was employed by Price Waterhouse LLP in various positions including Senior Manager, Capital Markets. Mr. Edrick received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Anderson School at the University of California, Los Angeles. Joanne Smith, Vice President of Tax Since 2010 Joanne has been working at OSI Systems, initially as the Senior Tax Director and now as the Vice President of Tax. In this role Joanne leads the global tax function for the company. Between 2007 and 2009 Joanne worked as the Senior Director of Tax at Computer Sciences Corporation, managing a large tax department and assisting with the restatement of the SEC financial statements. Joanne also revised tax processes to address material weaknesses. Between 1998 and 2007 Joanne was the Vice President of Tax at Ticketmaster, CitySearch, and Match.com, managing the global tax function and expanding her experience as the business expanded to multiple countries. Between 1996 and 1998, Joanne was the Director of Tax at Hilton where she handled tax planning, tax accounting, and tax compliance responsibilities. Between 1990 and 1996, Joanne was employed at Deloitte holding various roles including Tax Manager. Joanne obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from UCLA, and her Master of Business Taxation (MBT) degree from the University of Southern California. She is a licensed CPA. Find. Win.Lead.
