Our client, a global manufacturing leader, is seeking an
Application Engineer for Business Development
to support its
Paper Coatings team . This entrepreneurial, customer-focused role will be responsible for developing, testing, and implementing lab-based solutions that enable customers to bring
innovative, sustainable packaging products
to market.
The role combines technical expertise with customer engagement, delivering value through lab projects, product evaluations, and on-site technical support.
Key Responsibilities Conduct product evaluations, recommend raw materials, and manage equipment sourcing/setup for paper coatings applications. Partner with Business Development to address technical needs and advance innovation initiatives. Scale up new coating products, technologies, and tools from lab to market. Collaborate with suppliers, customers, and research institutes to support development programs. Prepare lab reports, technical correspondence, and customer-ready documentation. Adapt and implement lab procedures from technical journals, communicating findings effectively to stakeholders. Operate and maintain standard lab equipment; troubleshoot complex issues. Support customer projects, technical service, and value-delivery initiatives across North America (travel ~30%). Qualifications
BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
with direct experience in
paper coatings . 1 to 5+ years of experience in
technical service, product development, or coatings industry . Strong lab, analytical, and mechanical skills with ability to manage multiple projects. Proven experience in project management and technical troubleshooting. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with SAP and GPM a plus. Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills.
