Job Summary:
Under direct supervision of the supervisor, performs patient examinations and related activities; performs patient exams following established protocols, demonstrates knowledge of digital environment; reviews images before archiving to PACS and for submission to radiologists for interpretation, maintains patient records and is knowledgeable in RIS system; assures the correct patient is being imaged in accordance to hospital protocol of checking at least two patient identifiers before completing examination, and patient's clinical history is complete; completes associated paperwork, performs QA/QC on equipment, as needed. Stocks exam rooms with basic supplies, starts IVs and/or administers contrast, as required, maintains and adheres to accepted sterile techniques, and provides a clean environment within the examination area. Provide student technologists with the basic procedural concepts within a responsible modality. Share emergency call, as required. Demonstrates appropriate computer skills. Possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also possesses knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care required. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, and vendors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Knowledgeable of Radiation Safety ALARA principles and practice. Computed Tomography (C.T.) A technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized computerized x-ray equipment to produce cross-sectional images of the human anatomy, which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders.
Performance Expectations:
Actively utilizes the ALARA principle on all examspractices proper radiation shielding when possible. Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
Utilizes technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of Radiology equipment, including but not limited to the Facility EMR, RIS, PACs, GE Optima 580W, GE AW workstation, and MedRad power injectors.
Safely maintains the sterile field, and assists the Radiologist as needed
Correctly identifies patients who present for testing.
Routinely verifies orders and performs said orders.
Correctly place orders for testing in the hospitals computer system.
Monitors supply levels and orders supplies accordingly.
Collects, labels, and delivers biopsy specimens to the Lab promptly.
Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
Utilizes ability to work within Excel and Microsoft Word.
Possesses the ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and patients, utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or the patient.
Is competent in accessing and utilizing EMRs for the provision of patient care.
Is competent in image post-processing on GE AW workstation for CTAs and calcium scoring.
Follows scan protocols and adjusts scan perimeters as necessary.
Completes all radiology consent forms before starting a procedure
Possesses the ability to multitask and work in multiple systems simultaneously.
Prints patient CDs, and properly identifies the correct patient receives CD.
Operate head or body x-ray scanners that create a computer-generated cross-sectional image, commonly called a CAT (Computed Axial Tomography) Scan.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills:
Graduate from an approved school of radiologic technology. Must maintain 12 category A CEUs yearly.
Work Experience :
One year as a staff technologist (preferred). CT scanning experience (preferred).
Certification/Licensure- DUE UPON HIRE
Licensed with the Mississippi Department of Health (MSRT)
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT R.T. (R) Radiography
Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on the required timeframe below
Basic Life Support Within 30 Days of Employment Required
CT - ARRT (R) (CT) Computed Tomography Within 2 Years of Employment Preferred
