Summary: Prepare and cook required foods following state and federal guidelines at the NH Veterans Home. YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. Minimal Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience. Experience: One year of experience as a cook in preparing foods and cooking on a large scale. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. Special Requirements

- Must have a neat and clean appearance and practice personal hygiene and be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. - Knowledge of the methods, materials and practices of large-scale food preparation, food service and related activities including health hazards in food service and the necessary precautionary measures. - Knowledge of the care and use of food service implements and equipment. - Ability to read and follow recipes and special directions. - Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments. - Ability to work while standing and under conditions of high temperature and humidity. Responsibilities

- Prepares foods according to amounts needed following approved recipes and menus. - Operates and cleans all food service equipment according to manufacturers recommendations. - Cleans and sanitizes areas of production after each task. - Properly instructs staff on proper follow through on tasks assigned. - Supervises staff in absence of Food Service director or Assistant Manager. - Explains simple work procedures, provides general work instruction and assists other food service employees in solving routine work problems.
