The Role
Cultivate Power is seeking a driven and intellectually curious candidate as a Project Finance Analyst/Sr. Analyst. This person will assist project sale and financing transactions, make investment recommendations based on valuation analysis, and have the opportunity to manage select corporate finance and project finance activities (such as corporate debt financing, capital planning, tax strategies, construction draws, tax equity fundings, etc).
Join us if you are excited by the opportunity to turn land into renewable power plants, if you want to make the world a better place with more renewable energy, and if you want to learn by doing and working hard.
This role will accelerate an Analyst/Sr. Analyst forward in an entrepreneurial career in renewables investing, financing, and development.
The Analyst/Sr. Analyst will embody Cultivate’s entrepreneurial spirit. Over time, as the Analyst/Sr. Analyst learns and grows they will identify and lead new value creation opportunities, which could range from unlocking accretive financing, project acquisition opportunities, new business line opportunities, and more.
The Analyst/Sr. Analyst’s core project sales activities will involve assisting community solar project portfolio sales auctions, managing due diligence, and running the sales process from diligence through closing. For project financings, the Analyst/Sr. Analyst will build relationships with lenders, tax equity investors, attorneys and consultants through management of due diligence, third party reports, and construction phase for community solar portfolios.
The Analyst/Sr. Analyst will also work closely with other Project Finance team members, as well as Cultivate’s Development Market Leads to analyze valuation scenarios for projects in Cultivate’s markets, informing development investment decisions. The Analyst/Sr. Analyst will have the ability to model project valuation scenarios independently when needed. For corporate finance activities, the Analyst/Sr. Analyst will learn how to run a medium sized business from a financial operations and capitalization perspective. The Analyst/Sr. Analyst will have the opportunity to own and lead semi-annual capital planning processes.
A great candidate is excited to work across multiple finance functions: project sales/financing, valuation/investment decisioning, and corporate finance. In bigger companies, these represent three distinct finance functions, but at Cultivate we see significant synergies and value creation by combining these responsibilities across all finance team members. We are a dynamic company where everyone models, everyone drives value creating new ideas, and everyone “takes out the trash” (from time-to-time).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Sales and Financings: assist in the sale and financing of solar and storage projects, including running valuation exercises, collaborating with developers on major project deliverables, managing project financial models, overseeing project diligence, coordinating project consultants related to third party reports (Independent Engineer, Insurance Consultant, Market Consultant) and managing construction financing processes such as construction draws and tax equity fundings.
Project Valuation: evaluate project returns across markets and multiple scenarios to inform individual project development decision-making, as well as support and advise the development team in evaluating market entry decisions. Form investment recommendations based on analysis of valuation models, strategic considerations, and risk/return frameworks.
Corporate Finance: key activities that the Analyst/Sr. Analyst will rotate through include: raising corporate debt/equity/other financial instruments, tax equity investing, tax planning and optimization, managing corporate financial model, corporate cash forecast, and capital budget planning.
Ample opportunities for entrepreneurial thinking and wide breadth for impact through initiative: we are a high-growth passionate business and invite all team members to roll up their sleeves and help us do the work to deliver renewable energy and community benefits. There will be opportunities to assist across project M&A activities, new business lines, and entrepreneurial financing ideas. As the Analyst/Sr. Analyst grows in experience, they will find new ways to add value to and grow Cultivate Power’s impact.
