General Company and Position Information: A well-established real estate investment firm is seeking a senior attorney to act as General Counsel and a trusted advisor to ownership. The company’s headquarters are located in Glendale, California. The majority of the company’s commercial and residential properties are located in Los Angeles County. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills to evaluate complex issues, but will also be detail-oriented. The individual will have strong communication skills and judgment, capable of providing both practical business advice and legal analysis. The General Counsel drafts and negotiates transaction documents and manages deals from start to finish (this is a standalone position) across the full range of real estate transactions. The ideal candidate will be a well-organized self-starter, able to take ownership of multiple projects, with little guidance. In addition to extensive real estate transactional experience, the individual must have a broad range of skills, including entity formation and management, property management and operational best practices, land use, insurance, taxation and employment matters, among others. Duties & Responsibilities: ·

Real Estate Transactions o Purchase and sale transactions o Financing (recourse and non-recourse, and construction) o Leasing o Real estate development and construction o Property management matters ·

Other areas o Taxation o Insurance (both first- and third-party) o Supervision of outside counsel (primarily litigation) o Land use o Employment law ·

Operational : Provide day-to-day counseling to internal business teams on leasing, tenant management, human resources, risk management and dispute resolution issues ·

General:

Reliability for tracking and following up on multiple matters; Identify opportunities for internal process improvements and corporate governance Requirements: · 15+ yearsof transactional commercial real estate experience, preferably both in private practice and in-house · Ability to understand business needs, demonstrate sound judgment and partner with the business teams to formulate solutions · Demonstrated resourcefulness and self-directed behavior · Excellent written and verbal communication skills · Organized, detail-oriented, and flexible · Ability to effectively identify and communicate legal issues and associated risks · JD from an accredited law school · Admitted to the CA bar or any bar that will allow CA practice, and in good standing Compensation will be based on experience.
