Patent Agent (High Tech)

As part of the firm’s Intellectual Property team, this position is responsible for performing highly complex and sensitive client work requiring a high level of professional capability and skill. The primary responsibilities of this position includes preparing draft patent applications and draft responses to communications from the USPTO. This role assists attorneys in the delivery of quality legal services to clients in an efficient and cost effective manner. The person in this position must have at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering , be a self-starter and have a can-do attitude, possess excellent administrative skills and must have excellent academic credentials. The person in this position is preferably already licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Experience will be factored into compensation level, but not required. This is a full-time, exempt position located in our Austin, D allas, Houston, New York, Palo Alto, New York, or Washington, D.C. office.

We are seeking a Life Sciences Patent Agent with 2+ years of experience to join our highly-regarded Intellectual Property team. Candidates should have a background in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, DNA sequencing, immunology, or life sciences technology; advanced degrees preferred. The applicant should have solid experience in patent prosecution, as well as some experience in patent portfolio analysis, due diligence or other IP transactional matters; experience in PTAB proceedings would be a plus but is not required. Must have excellent academic record and be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This position is based in our Austin, Dallas, Houston, New York, Palo Alto, San Francisco, or Washington DC office. For positions based in the NY or CA office of Baker Botts L.L.P., the salary range is $120,000 to $200,000, depending on experience level.

The person in this position is preferably already licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. At least 3 years of experience is required of patent preparation and prosecution in the semiconductor industry. This is a full-time, exempt position located in our Austin, Dallas, Houston, New York, San Francisco, Palo Alto, or Washington, D.C. office.
