Job Title: RN - PACU Pre-Operative and Post-Operative
Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
Hours: 36-48 hours per week
Location: Portland, ME
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to join our team. This role involves providing comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing various cardiac procedures including Catheterization (Cath), Electrophysiology (EP), and Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE). The ideal candidate will be flexible, team-oriented, and possess excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality Phase 1 post-operative care to patients, ensuring safety and comfort.
- Monitor and assess patients for complications during recovery.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including cardiac drips and IV therapies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate smooth transitions of care.
- Prepare patients for discharge after post-operative assessments are complete.
- Float to Bramhall PACU, IMC, and ICU as needed.
- Participate in weekend call rotation (every other weekend).
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a PACU or ICU setting, particularly with cardiac patients.
- Proficient in reading telemetry strips and understanding EKGs.
- Experience with pre and post-procedure management of TEE/CV/CATH/EP processes.
- Knowledge of trauma care at a Level 1 facility is essential.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required.
- Must be flexible and willing to adapt to changing patient needs.
Unit Information:
- Number of Beds: 40 pre/post-operative beds with 9 overnight bays.
- Patient Ratios: 2:1 in Phase 1 care, up to 3-4 in 23-hour stay.
- Equipment Used: IV pumps, PCA, Epidural catheters, A-lines, Telemetry monitoring, and Epic EMR.
Dress Code:
- Scrubs (color: any), fragrance-free workplace policies in effect.
- Unacceptable attire includes artificial nails and cell phone use during shifts.
