Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer III will serve as a key resource for Plant Engineering at Client Hickory, NC facility. The primary responsibility of this role is to support mechanical design and implementation efforts focused on improving existing fiber optic cable manufacturing equipment. This position will involve hands-on work, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and opportunities to lead project activities from concept through deployment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design tooling and mechanical assemblies using Inventor or AutoCAD.
  • Revise and update equipment drawings and documentation as needed.
  • Develop experimental plans and conduct testing to validate new designs.
  • Order parts and components by obtaining quotes and working with vendors/machine shops.
  • Assemble or oversee the assembly of systems, with hands-on participation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during equipment integration.
  • Collaborate closely with IT, process, and electrical engineering teams.
  • Work with operations teams to update procedures and support employee training.
  • Manage mechanics and electricians during equipment assembly and installation.

  • Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical system design and integration.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (preferably Inventor), Vault, and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of drafting standards including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience with mechanical system troubleshooting, including pneumatic controls, flow control, and cooling systems.
  • Experience with repair and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong ability to coordinate with external vendors and machine shops for part procurement.

  • Preferred Qualifications (if any)
  • Experience with plastic extrusion manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems including low/medium voltage, motion control, PLCs, and temperature control systems.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis using tools such as Microsoft Excel, PI, and/or Power BI.
