Mechanical Engineer Location:
San Jose, CA – Onsite Position Type:
Contract W2 Only Responsibilities:
Design and deliver chassis and cards that meet system product requirements. Perform detailed 2D tolerance analysis for complex electro-mechanical assemblies using spreadsheets and/or 3D tolerance analysis tools such as CETol. Design and develop innovative mechanical solutions using sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast materials that meet EMI, safety, and compliance standards. Develop 3D CAD models using Creo or NX. Create detailed drawings applying Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning (GD&T) principles. Lead issue resolution by collaborating with manufacturing teams and suppliers, developing mitigation plans, and informing management. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (HW, SI, CAD, Thermal, Manufacturing) to negotiate requirements and evaluate technical risks and tradeoffs. Work with thermal engineers to design and implement cooling solutions. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with 8-12 years of EMS design experience. 8+ years of relevant experience in designing compute/network products. Expertise in 3D MCAD tools (Creo/NX). Experience in static and dynamic analysis using tools such as Creo Simulate or ANSYS. Expertise in tolerance analysis, GD&T, and statistical analysis. Experience designing sheet metal for high-volume production. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Deep understanding of GD&T principles and tolerance analysis. Additional Qualifications:
Experience in mechanical design of computer/networking equipment for data centers. Knowledge of manufacturing tooling for sheet metal, plastic, and die-casting. Experience designing plastic and die-cast parts. Strong mechanical aptitude. Mechanism design experience is a plus. Experience with ECO, BOM, and deviation processes (Agile experience is a plus). Familiarity with PDMLink (TeamCenter) and Model-Based Definition (MBD) is a plus. Excellent team player, willing to listen, compromise, and collaborate to find the best solutions.
