Job Description: This position oversees the continuum of care including wellness and prevention, community support networks, collaborations with primary care, pre-admission workup, perioperative care, anesthesia best practices, and post-discharge care. It provides strategic direction, leadership, oversight, and support for a region-wide surgical oncology team and fosters a culture of high-quality, reliable patient care. The Medical Director-Surgical Specialties-Surgical Oncology-Region collaborates effectively with all surgical oncologists, Advanced Practice Providers, and other team members involved in cancer care across the region. The role partners with leaders in Clinical Programs, Shared Services, Research & Academics, and payers to create a positive environment for both patients and providers. It champions provider development, innovation, and continuous improvement, and is accountable for the success of the Surgical Oncology team and related sub-teams. This leader promotes excellence in patient care by engaging physicians, APPs, and teams across the region. The position reports to the Senior Medical Director of Surgical Specialties and collaborates with all members of the cancer care team, including Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, and Radiology. Job Essentials: Serve as the supervising physician leader for regionally-based surgical oncologists. Lead the development and implementation of evidence-based, best practice cancer surgery care standards. Coordinate patient care throughout the cancer treatment journey. Foster collaboration among physicians and APPs in oncologic surgery care. Establish care models in line with CMS/JC guidelines and patient needs, including supplies and equipment. Identify optimal care locations with clinical leadership. Lead strategic initiatives including telehealth services for oncologic surgery. Develop communication processes to connect providers and teams across the region and disciplines. Drive key performance metrics such as patient experience and CMS quality measures. Minimum Qualifications: M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution, with verified degree. Active Utah Medical Licensure or in process. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS). At least three years of leadership experience in clinical settings, recognized by peers. Experience with change management and implementing new processes or technology. Effective communication skills. Three years of progressive healthcare leadership experience. Medical staff privileges at the assigned hospital. Experience in conflict resolution. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field. Experience in complex health systems. Demonstrated leadership of clinicians. Physical Requirements: Location: Transformation Center, Murray, Utah Scheduled Weekly Hours: 12 The hourly rate ranges from $7.25 to $999.99, depending on experience.
