Azure Files team is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Software Engineer to design and develop the next generation of the Azure file storage stack. Azure Storage is Microsoft's cloud storage solution, designed to be massively scalable, highly distributed, and accessible worldwide. Azure Files supports industry-standard protocols such as SMB, CIFS, NFS, and REST, and is compatible with on-premises Windows and Linux file servers, capable of scaling to exabytes of storage with high reliability, performance, and security. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will develop core storage features, including architectural enhancements to improve scalability and performance. Design, build, maintain, and operate a resilient, multi-protocol file service supporting millions of requests across multiple regions. Implement enhancements such as namespace scaling, disaster recovery, and auto-tiering in Azure File Storage. Develop expertise in distributed system design, file protocols (NFS, SMB), network protocols, and related technologies. Collaborate with diverse engineering teams, share knowledge, and learn continuously. Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), guiding other engineers, monitoring system health, and managing incidents to ensure system stability.
