The Juneau International Airport (JNU) is seeking an Airport Maintenance & Operations Superintendent to join their energetic team of professionals to lead airport operations.

Under the general direction of the Airport Manager, the Superintendent oversees the management of all airfield operations, ensuring compliance with

14 CFR Part 139 certification requirements and other federal, state, and local regulations. This position is a key member of the Airport’s administration team.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION The position is based at Juneau International Airport and generally works Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Work hours may vary to coordinate with shift schedules, oversee construction or snow removal operations, attend evening meetings, or respond to airport emergencies.

The Superintendent oversees airfield safety programs, including snow and ice control, pavement and grounds maintenance, fleet management, lighting and signage, and issuance of NOTAMs. The position supports the Airport Emergency Plan, serves on the Incident Command System (ICS) team for airport/aircraft incidents, and participates in the Airport’s Wildlife Hazard Management Program.

This role ensures compliance with FAA recordkeeping and certification inspections, develops and tracks the airfield operating budget, and coordinates with airport administration on overall budget and rate/fee development. The Superintendent also oversees environmental compliance programs, including the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), and other regulatory requirements. The Superintendent supervises and manages airfield division personnel, including operators, supervisors, mechanics, laborers, and safety officers. Duties include assigning work schedules and tasks; managing performance evaluations, training, promotions, and disciplinary actions; and resolving employee complaints and grievances. The role also ensures all airport personnel complete initial and recurrent training necessary to meet FAA certification requirements. The position develops and maintains professional working relationships with CBJ departments, tenants, and state and federal agencies, and may represent the Airport during audits, inspections, and compliance reviews. Responsibilities also include researching, drafting, and presenting reports, position papers, and operational updates to the Airport Board, tenants, and the public. Performs other related duties as assigned. This position is in the partially exempt service.

The qualifications below are desirable. Three (3) years of professional experience in the broad occupational fields of the division or department and any combination of two years of supervisory or managerial experience, which may be concurrent with the professional experience. Special Notes: “Professional experience in the broad occupational fields of the division or department,” means experience in one of the professional areas that compose the division’s purpose and function to ensure the applicant has the knowledge of the work of the division to be managed. Position specific requirements licensure, certification, or credentials are listed in the position description of record. Airport Superintendent: *Initial appointment to all FMCSA positions requiring a CDL will be made conditionally pending (1) receipt of verified negative results of pre-employment testing for controlled substances and (2) passing a 3-year drug & alcohol testing background check with previous DOT employers. Employees must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse and provide CBJ with paper and electronic consent for a full query of the driver’s Clearinghouse record. Employee will then be subject to the City and Borough’s drug-testing program.
