Job Description And Duties
The Environmental Chemistry Laboratory is seeking seasoned scientists with chemistry and/or other science disciplines background with experience in analytical chemistry and instrumentation and are passionate about protecting the communities and environment from toxic chemicals.
As a Research Scientist II, you will have the opportunity to:
Work independently or as the lead in a group to develop and validate standard and new analytical methods for DTSC special projects using sophisticated computer interfaced equipment and Gas Chromatography (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) and Mass Spectrometer (MS) hyphenated instruments Solve complex analytical problems such as matrix interferences, sensitivity and selectivity and optimizes instrument conditions as a part of the method development process Evaluate scientific literature for in-depth understanding and knowledge of the project Prepare technical reports for DTSC and manuscripts for publication to peer-reviewed journals
Desirable Qualifications We Look For:
Two years or more experience in an analytical chemistry and/or geology laboratory Two years or more of research experience working independently on projects One year or more experience with mass spectrometry (MS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and/or transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
