The Business Development Director will be a key member of our global business development team, primarily responsible for leading and executing the company'sout-licensingstrategy in North America and Europe. This role requires a unique combination of deep scientific insight and exceptional business acumen. The successful candidate will leverage their strong scientific background to proactively identify and evaluate cutting-edge targets, technology platforms, and collaboration opportunities (includingin-licensing) at top-tier industry conferences and academic forums, driving transactions from initial contact to final execution.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead the out-licensing efforts for the company's internal oncology large molecule assets (from pre-clinical to clinical stages).
- Develop and execute asset out-licensing strategies targeted at the North American and European markets.
- Identify potential partners, and establish and maintain a network of relationships with global biotech and large pharmaceutical companies.
- Lead the entire transaction process, including strategic planning, valuation, negotiation, deal structuring, and finalizing agreements.
- Scientific Intelligence & Opportunity Sourcing (License-in Scouting):
- Act as the company's "Scientific Scout" by actively participating in renowned international industry conferences (e.g., AACR, ASCO, ESMO) and academic forums.
- Proactively source and evaluate external early-stage innovation opportunities, including novel targets and advanced technology platforms (e.g., neoantigens, protein degradation, novel antibody platforms).
- Conduct in-depth scientific and technical due diligence to assess the scientific validity, mechanistic novelty, and medical value of targets.
- Work closely with internal R&D and medical teams to provide scientific rationale for potential in-licensing opportunities.
- Cross-functional Leadership & Collaboration:
- Collaborate effectively with internal R&D, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, and Finance teams to synthesize diverse inputs and form unified business development strategies.
- Provide market intelligence and competitive landscape analysis to the R&D team, offering a commercial perspective for internal pipeline project initiation and prioritization decisions.
- Market Analysis & Strategic Planning:
- Continuously monitor and analyze competitive dynamics, technology trends, and the deal environment in the market.
- Prepare and present deal proposals, business cases, and strategic recommendations to senior management.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Must possess a Ph.D. in Life Sciences,with a specialization in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Cancer Biology, or related fields.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 years focused on business development, licensing transactions, or a related role (e.g., R&D project leadership).
- Must have a proven track record of successful License-out transactionsand be familiar with the deal process (term negotiation, due diligence, agreement execution, etc.).
- Hands-on experience in drug R&D (especially in oncology large molecules) from target validation to the nomination of a Preclinical Candidate (PCC) or clinical entry is highly preferred.Must possess a deep understanding of the scientific process of drug discovery and R&D decision points.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong Scientific Acumen:Ability to quickly comprehend, critically evaluate, and effectively communicate complex scientific data and novel technologies.
- Exceptional Business Acumen:Strong financial analysis, valuation modeling, and strategic thinking skills.
- Outstanding Interpersonal & Communication Skills:Ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with internal and external scientists, executives, and partners from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Proactive & Self-motivated:Possess strong initiative, ability to work independently, and proactively seek opportunities through networking and conferences.
- Mandarin is a necessary skill
The salary available
- Total Compensation:$180,000 - $200,000+ Equity grants+Project incentive bonus
