Contracted Teacher Of The Visually Impaired (TVI)
Excel Academy is a network of five schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island that prepares students in grades 5-12 to succeed in high school and college and engage productively in their communities. The majority of our 1,700 students identify as Latinx or Hispanic and will be the first in their families to graduate from college. Excel Academy is seeking a Contracted Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide specialized instructional services to a small caseload of students with visual impairments. This is a part-time contracted role (approximately 2.53 hours per week). The TVI will deliver direct instruction, consult with staff and families, and support students' access to the curriculum in alignment with their IEPs. Scope of Services Provide direct instruction and consultation to approximately two students with visual impairments in accordance with their IEP goals and service hours; Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to IEP planning, development, and progress monitoring; Recommend and support the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and accessible instructional materials (braille, large print, digital, etc.); Collaborate with teachers, families, and student support staff to ensure consistent implementation of accommodations and strategies; Train staff and families on techniques and tools that support student independence and access; Provide documentation of services delivered and submit timely progress reports as required by Excel Academy and state guidelines. Qualifications A valid Massachusetts teaching license as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI); Experience providing direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments in school settings; Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills; Ability to work independently in a very part-time contracted capacity. Preference will be given to applicants who also:
Have experience in public or charter schools; Speak Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic fluently; Demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive practices and equity in education.
