Please note: duration will be for approximately 5-6 months.

The Staff Research Associate 1-2 (TEP) Will Contribute Directly To The Completion Of An On-going Research Project Under The Supervision Of The PI By Assisting With Regulatory Compliance, Maintaining Reagent Stocks, Performing Experiments In The Field Of Neuronal Injury And Recovery And Analyzing Data. This Is An Exceptional Opportunity To Gain Research And Publication Experience In a Short Timeframe. Duties To Include:

Basic Research: Participate in bench science in collaboration with, and with the guidance of, the PI. Experimental techniques will include mouse handling and husbandry, cell culture, immunostaining, molecular cloning, microscopy, image analysis, and data analysis. Regulatory compliance: Assist in the maintaining compliance with EH&S and IACUC regulations. Maintenance of stocks: Prepare and maintain research supplies and stocks.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications

SRA I: BA/BS degree in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the techniques or methods required by the position, especially basic mammalian cell culture; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Conceptual understanding of basic cell biology. Knowledge of scientific equipment (centrifuge, pipettes, ultra-low freezers, biosafety hoods). Computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.

Sra Ii:

In addition to the above, one or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position. Mouse husbandry and tissue collection experience.

Sra I:

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with molecular cloning. Experience working with primary neuronal cell culture.
