The County of San Diego invites your interest in an excellent career opportunity! CIVIL ENGINEER Interviews will be held on an ongoing weekly basis. Reflecting our commitment to attracting and retaining top talent, all candidates hired for this position will be eligible to receive an annual base salary of $136,177.60. Future Salary Increases:

June 2026:

4.57% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 1.07% Market Adjustment) June 2027:

New Hire Lateral Incentive Pay:

Candidates with experience as a Civil Engineer in a public agency are eligible for up to $5,000. Engineer Premium:

5% applied to time worked. Recruitment Bonus:

This recruitment aims to establish a six-month eligible list for current and future vacancies in the Department of Public Works and Planning & Development Services. The Civil Engineer role is a journey-level class with opportunities for growth within the series, including positions like Assistant Engineer and Senior Civil Engineer. In Public Works, assignments may include transportation, engineering services, and land development divisions. Job offer and background check follow successful interviews. Current County employees may be exempt from additional screening. Pre-employment medical screening occurs approximately three days after background clearance. Start date depends on medical clearance and mutual agreement. Registration as a Professional Engineer by the State of California is required. Experience in water and wastewater infrastructure is highly desirable.
