Staff Mechanical Engineer – Electromechanical Systems Please note:
Candidates
must
be within a 15-minute commute to 94110 zip code or open to relocate to SF/Mission District. Responsibilities: Lead the design and development of electromechanical subsystems, from concept and R&D through new product introduction (NPI) and into sustaining production. Own the creation and maintenance of CAD assemblies, part models, and detailed drawings. Collaborate closely with Quality and Manufacturing teams to ensure product designs are robust, reliable, and scalable for high-volume production. Work cross-functionally with electrical, optical, and systems engineering teams to deliver fully integrated and functional hardware solutions. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. 5+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design and product development. Proven experience designing complex, multi-domain mechanical systems (e.g., opto-mechanical, electro-mechanical, or hydraulic systems). Demonstrated technical leadership, including project planning and cross-functional coordination. Ability to contribute to long-term product strategy and development roadmaps. Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and performing tolerance analysis. Expertise with SolidWorks for CAD design. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to thrive in a highly cross-functional environment. Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Hands-on skills in assembling, debugging, and troubleshooting sensor-based systems. Willingness to travel occasionally as required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience designing for high-volume or consumer product markets. Background in launching products into full-scale production. Familiarity with multiple aspects of product development, including manufacturing, reliability testing, and product design. Experience with high-volume opto-mechanical systems. Expertise in designing products for rugged or harsh environmental conditions. Experience mentoring or coaching junior engineers. Proficiency in Python for scripting or automation tasks. Experience conducting and interpreting FEA and CFD simulations (thermal and structural). Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and quality control practices. Seniority level
