nJob Summary Dermatology of New Mexico is an exciting new independent physician practice. Our mission at Dermatology of New Mexico is to strive for outstanding services and excellence in care with regard to all aspects of Dermatology, including medical, surgical, cosmetic, and aesthetics. nDermatology of New Mexico offers a variety of treatment options to help create the best results for our patients. Our Dermatologists are certified by the American Board of Dermatology and are members of the American Academy of Dermatology. As a Medical Assistant in our practice, you will join a team of medical professionals who are committed to helping you create a future for yourself as a Medical Assistant. nResponsibilities
nGreets patients in a friendly, courteous manner and escorts our patients to exam rooms
nObtain the reason for the patient visit and review the patient's past medical history
nChart in the electronic medical record while the provider is examining and counseling the patient
nAssist in skin biopsies and other dermatologic procedures during the visit
nProvide appropriate paperwork to the patient including wound care instructions, prescriptions, handouts, and lab requisition forms, and give follow-up recommendations
nSchedule follow-up appointments and procedures
nReview pre-op instructions with patients
nAssist with obtaining medication prior authorizations
nExplain financial policies about appointment check-in time or missed/canceled appointments
nReturn patient phone messages and address any questions with the providers
nSuture removals, wound checks, and dressing changes
nTransfer prescription refill requests and lab results for provider review
nFacilitate records release, obtain medical records, and facilitate referrals when necessary
nReview pathology results recommendations and notify patients of results by mail or phone if needed of those results
nArrange for follow-up visits according to the provider's plan
nLog results into EMR and follow them until completion
nOther work includes: drawing up anesthetic, setting up sterile surgery trays, cleaning surgical tools, and running the autoclave
nKeeps the Medical assistant station and med room closet clean and organized as well as the patient rooms
nFiling, scanning, copying, and printing as necessary
nAdheres to policies, procedures, and protocols related to clinical dermatology services.
nAssists in any other area that supports the team and practice
nQualifications
nHigh school diploma or equivalent degree
nGraduate from an accredited program as a Certified Medical Assistant
nPossess and maintain a current CPR/BLS certification or obtain CPR/BLS certification within 30 days of hire
nStrong attention to detail
nPreferred Qualifications
nCurrent Certified/Registered Medical Assistant certificate and 1-2 years of experience in a dermatology office setting preferred.
nKnowledge of common dermatology procedures and terminology and experience with electronic medical programs.
nUnderstanding of Sterile technique and ability to assist in medical procedures including skin biopsies and excisions.
nComputer skills and ability to use an iPad efficiently.
nConditions of Employment
nMust pass a pre-employment criminal background check and reference checks
nMust be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).
nWork Environment: Medical Assistants may be exposed to certain hazardous chemicals and biological specimens. Dermatology of New Mexico maintains strict protocols and limits exposure to these agents.
nPhysical Demands: Significant amount of walking and assisting patients, some heavy lifting may be required (up to 50 lbs.); data entry (typing).
