The
City of O'Fallon, MO
is seeking a knowledgeable and service-oriented
Inspector I
to join our Community Development team. In this vital role, you will ensure the safety and quality of residential structures through thorough plan reviews, inspections, and occupancy evaluations. Whether it's overseeing new home construction or helping ensure safe living conditions in existing rental units, you'll make a lasting impact in one of Missouri's most dynamic and rapidly growing communities. What You'll Do
Review residential construction plans for compliance and issue permits.
Inspect new and renovated homes and accessory structures for adherence to building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, and zoning codes.
Perform rental occupancy inspections and issue appropriate permits.
Inspect existing structures for health and life safety compliance.
Provide code guidance to contractors, residents, architects, and internal staff.
Investigate and resolve code complaints from residents or other departments.
Prepare detailed reports and documentation; testify in court if needed.
Conduct after-hours inspections during emergencies (on-call).
Assist with commercial inspections and snow removal operations when necessary.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
1–2 years of related experience (apprenticeship, internship, or similar position).
Valid Missouri driver's license or ability to obtain one.
Ability to obtain the following International Code Council (ICC) certifications within 3 years: Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Inspector
Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector (Certification as a Certified Building Official [CBO] satisfies all certification requirements.)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and mobile technology.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
