Trade Compliance Logistics Specialists Department: Supply Chain / Logistics
Location: Addison, IL (initial) relocating to Geneva, IL with the new factory
Reports To: Director of Supply Chain / Chief Manufacturing Officer

Position Summary The Trade Compliance & Transportation Specialist will be responsible for managing and executing all aspects of international and domestic shipment operations for HSG Tech, Inc., with a strong focus on import/export compliance, freight management, and shipping/receiving processes. This role will work closely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal teams to ensure compliant, efficient, and cost-effective transportation of goods.
As part of the initial U.S. startup phase, this position will be highly hands-on, supporting day-to-day shipping activities while also building scalable processes and systems for future growth. Over time, the scope may expand to support global trade compliance and logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities
Trade Compliance Ensure all import and export activities comply with U.S. Customs regulations, Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and other applicable trade laws. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedules (HTS), duty rates, and relevant tariff changes, ensuring correct classification and valuation of goods. Prepare, review, and maintain required documentation for international shipments (commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, etc.). Partner with customs brokers and freight forwarders to resolve compliance issues or shipment delays. Support internal audits and maintain accurate compliance records for regulatory purposes.
Transportation & Freight Management Develop and manage inbound and outbound freight strategies for both domestic and international shipments. Select and manage carriers, forwarders, and brokers to ensure on-time, cost-effective delivery. Negotiate rates and service agreements with logistics partners. Coordinate container booking, routing, and tracking for all shipments. Analyze freight performance metrics and implement cost-reduction and efficiency initiatives.
Shipping & Receiving Operations Oversee daily shipping and receiving processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company standards. Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for shipping/receiving in alignment with trade compliance requirements. Work closely with warehouse teams to ensure proper labeling, packaging, and documentation of shipments.
Startup & Cross-Functional Support Assist with related operational tasks during the initial U.S. facility startup phase. Collaborate with supply chain, production, and finance teams to align logistics activities with company goals. Support the transition from Addison to the Geneva facility in 2026, ensuring continuity of operations.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, or related field; or equivalent experience. 5+ years of experience in trade compliance, freight forwarding, transportation, or logistics. Strong knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations, HTS classification, and trade compliance requirements. Proven experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and familiarity with ERP/WMS systems.
Preferred: Bilingual in Mandarin Chinese and English. Experience in manufacturing or capital equipment industries. Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA or similar ERP systems. Prior experience in a startup or facility launch environment.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements Primarily office-based role with regular interaction on the warehouse/shipping floor. Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs) and standing during shipping/receiving inspections. Some domestic and international travel may be required.
