About the Role: The Vet Technician, Non-Credentialed, plays a vital role in supporting veterinary professionals by providing compassionate and efficient care to animals within the Care Animal Clinic at CAREC. This position involves assisting with medical procedures, monitoring patient health, and ensuring a clean and safe environment for both animals and staff. The role requires close collaboration with veterinarians and other team members to facilitate smooth clinical operations and enhance patient outcomes. Although non-credentialed, the technician will be responsible for performing essential technical tasks under supervision, contributing to the overall quality of veterinary services. Ultimately, this position is integral to maintaining high standards of animal care and client satisfaction in a dynamic clinical setting. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with animals in a clinical or shelter environment. Basic knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common medical procedures. Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately. Preferred Qualifications: Completion of a veterinary technician training program or coursework. Experience with medical record keeping and clinic management software. Familiarity with common veterinary medications and their administration. CPR and first aid certification for animals. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact compassionately with pet owners and team members. Responsibilities: Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures by preparing equipment and restraining animals as needed. Monitor and record vital signs and behavior of animals before, during, and after medical interventions to ensure their well-being. Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments, treatment areas, and animal housing to uphold clinic hygiene standards. Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinary staff, ensuring accurate dosage and proper documentation. Communicate effectively with pet owners to provide basic care instructions and support, fostering a positive client experience. Skills: The required skills enable the technician to perform animal handling and clinical support tasks safely and effectively, ensuring patient comfort and procedural accuracy. Attention to detail is critical when monitoring vital signs and administering treatments to prevent errors and promote recovery. Communication skills are essential for educating pet owners and collaborating with veterinary staff to deliver coordinated care.
