Position: Senior Electrical Engineer
We rely on you to:
- Lead the BES electrical engineering section in the New England region, focusing on design and review of facility-level electrical systems including power distribution, emergency generators, UPS, lighting, fire alarm/security, and motor controls. Conduct power system studies like short circuit, load flow, and arc flash.
- Apply electrical engineering principles, codes, and best practices effectively.
- Lead the electrical design team through all project phases, from feasibility to close-out.
- Produce comprehensive design packages including basis of design, drawings, and specifications.
- Design electrical systems for normal and emergency power, lighting, fire alarm, and security/communication systems.
- Design interior and exterior lighting systems with industry-standard software such as AGi32.
- Prepare electrical load analyses and detailed system drawings.
- Visit sites to verify conditions and monitor construction progress.
- Conduct infrastructure assessments, utility planning, and code/energy evaluations.
- Support cost estimates, BIM coordination, and resolve project conflicts.
- Participate in project meetings, presentations, and coordinate with stakeholders.
- Assist in all phases of engineering, construction, and inspection, including reviewing shop drawings and approving invoices.
- Mentor junior engineers and support professional development.
- Perform electrical system calculations using SKM PowerTools.
- Contribute to life cycle cost analyses for selecting cost-effective systems, including renewable options.
- Oversee internal design quality and review third-party designs.
- Participate in recruitment and other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specialty lighting controls, fire alarm, security, and telecom systems.
- Knowledge of sustainable design certifications like LEED AP or WELL AP.
- Experience with commissioning and retro-commissioning, industry certifications preferred.
- Design experience with healthcare, education, science, civic facilities, data centers, and utility plants.
- Experience with pump stations and water/wastewater facilities.
- Proficiency with load analysis software and equipment selection tools.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams, with professional initiative.
- Mentoring skills are highly valued.
- Local candidates preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering with an electrical focus.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in building electrical design.
- Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng).
- Extensive knowledge of electrical power, lighting, signal design, and safety systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and electrical design software.
