Legal Assistant
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team in the Civil Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon, in the Portland Main Office. Typical work assignments in support of Assistant U.S. Attorneys will include: Prepares draft legal and administrative pleadings and various other correspondence and legal documents. Review and organize complex factual material and other documentary data. Performs substantive legal research using a variety of research tools. Develop case review databases and, in coordination with case teams, perform complex review of materials to prepare reports and production. Provide advice on the most efficient method for preparing legal documents. Use tables and citation checking with efficiency. Prepare a variety of substantive legal documents to include subpoenas, interrogatory requests, and documentation relevant to acquiring evidence or testimony. Develop and enter case information into various computer databases. Prepare charts, graphs, and tables to illustrate results. Prepare, develop, and compile jury instructions and exhibits in preparation for and presentation at trial. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Qualifications: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Education: Master's or equivalent graduate level degree (such as an LL.B or J.D.) OR at least two (2) full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field (e.g., Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, Law). Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
