Victim And Witness Assistant

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a variety of victim and witness assistance functions. Typical work assignments will include: Assessing victims' immediate needs for assistance. Identifying routine resources that are available and providing referrals to crime victims, their families and witnesses. Providing attorneys with information regarding victims and witnesses. Aiding in preparing victims and witnesses to deliver testimony. Providing in-court support to victims during and prior to hearings and trials, including courtroom orientation prior to testimony, facilitating opportunities for victims to consult with attorneys prosecuting the case and locating a safe, separate waiting area apart from defendants and their counsel. Providing victims and witnesses with routine information about the criminal justice process and court proceedings. Facilitating victims' understanding and expectations of the criminal justice process. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. The salary range for a GS-9 in Oakland, California is $76,397 - $99,314 (step 1 through step 10). If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary is typically set at Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. Qualifications: GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least one of the following conditions: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level. Education: One of the following in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Social Services, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Victimology, Criminal Justice): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR an LL.B. or J.D., if related. Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on combination, graduate education must be in excess of one (1) full year. Additional Information: Payment of relocation expenses will not be authorized.
